LATEST NEWS
Following our first symposium “Avoiding the AI ‘off-Switch’: Make AI work for clinicians, to deliver for patients”, we are delighted to announce that we are holding a 2nd online symposium: “AI Safety: AI in Action” on 29th May.
This event will explore the real-world use of AI in healthcare, highlighting how researchers funded by The MPS Foundation and other collaborators are using AI to enhance patient care and reduce risk. You’ll hear from leading experts, including Dr Jagdeesh Singh Dhaliwal, Dr Sara Memon, Dr Ernest Lim, and Dr Jasmine Loke, as they look at how AI could improve patient consent, be used to identify periodontal disease, and support healthcare practitioners to record their consultations. They will explain the benefits that AI brings but also some of the practical, ethical, and legal challenges that need to be considered. Join us to gain insights and practical strategies to help integrate AI into practice – and discover how this rapidly evolving technology can help improve experiences for clinicians and outcomes for patients.
Date: 29 May 2025
Time: 08:00 to 11:00 BST

Our first symposium was attended by over 1500 people from across the globe and included the following speakers who were able to provide their thoughts and insights on AI and AI safety in healthcare:
- Professor Tom Lawton (Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust) on clinician attitudes towards AI and the responsibilities that come with it.
- Professor Ibrahim Habli (Centre for Assuring Autonomy) on why AI must work for clinicians.
- Professor Philip Morgan (York University) on the legal challenges and considerations of AI.
If you missed the first symposium you can watch a recording here or if you are a Medical Protection or Dental Protection member you can view each session individually here.
By attending this symposium, you can deepen your understanding of AI's risks, benefits, and regulatory framework, and learn how to safely incorporate AI tools into your practice. This is a rapidly evolving landscape and we want to ensure that AI works for you, so your patients benefit, by sharing learning and thoughts from leaders in the field.<
