The MPS Foundation is proud to recognise the dedication and innovation of interns in Ireland through our Medical Intern Research Competition: a national initiative celebrating projects that improve patient safety and healthcare professionals’ wellbeing.

We are delighted to announce that this year’s competition winner is Dr Aoife Donohue, a medical intern at OUR LADY OF LOURDES HOSPITAL, Drogheda. Her excellent project, “Handover in paediatric and neonatal service” demonstrated that clear communication between healthcare professionals is important to providing safe and effective patient care. Her work is a reminder that even small-scale projects can make an impact.

The 2026 competition will be renamed ‘The MPS Foundation Ireland Medical and Dental Research Competition’ to reflect its opening to all healthcare professionals registered with the Medical or Dental Councils. If you’re a doctor or dentist with a passion for improving care, this is a great opportunity to share your research and drive positive change.
