Our first online symposium "Avoiding the AI ‘Off-Switch’: Make AI Work for Clinicians, to Deliver for Patients" held on 29 April 2025 and attended by participants from across the globe. A recording of the event is now available for you to view.
This virtual event followed the publication of the ground-breaking White Paper based on findings from the Shared CAIRE (Shared Care AI Role Evaluation) research project, which was funded by The MPS Foundation, and explored some of the key challenges and opportunities presented by AI. Speakers included:
- Professor Tom Lawton (Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust) on clinician attitudes towards AI and the responsibilities that come with it.
- Professor Ibrahim Habli (Centre for Assuring Autonomy) on why AI must work for clinicians.
- Professor Philip Morgan (York University) on the legal challenges and considerations of AI.

Following our first event we invite you to our next engaging online symposium: “AI Safety: AI in Action”.
This event will explore the real-world use of AI in healthcare, highlighting how researchers funded by The MPS Foundation and other collaborators are using AI to enhance patient care and reduce risk. You’ll hear from leading experts, including Dr Jagdeesh Singh Dhaliwal, Dr Sara Memon, Dr Ernest Lim, and Dr Jasmine Loke, as they look at how AI could improve patient consent, be used to identify periodontal disease, and support healthcare practitioners to record their consultations. They will explain the benefits that AI brings but also some of the practical, ethical, and legal challenges that need to be considered. Join us to gain insights and practical strategies to help integrate AI into practice – and discover how this rapidly evolving technology can help improve experiences for clinicians and outcomes for patients.
